Top 10 Favorite Vendors at Mayumi Market

It’’s Filipino History Month (or was) and we’re celebrating by supporting Filipino-owned small businesses financially and by hyping them up to the fullest. This year I attended the October and November Mayumi Market events where we gave as many vendors as much of our money for their carefully curated goods as possible. My people are so talented! I’m excited to share with you some of the standout vendors my family and I discovered. A lot of these would make great gifts for loved ones so follow them for more!

About Mayumi Market

Mayumi Market was started by Kat of Mayumi Goods, an extremely talented individual that worked tirelessly to create a phenomenal experience for both attendees and vendors. I didn’t get to meet her, but I literally saw her in action working her booth, passing out goodie bags, directing people where to go and creating content for social media. She’s amazing. The market was curated for AAPI businesses to thrive and showcase their services and products. At this particular event, Filipino/a/x artists were highlighted. Not sure if Kat is Filipina, but she presented her Mayumi Goods booth there as well. providing quality skincare and home products with a such fun vibe.

01 Woman in Stems

I’m a sucker for flowers and I’d pay good money for a beautiful flower arrangement and Xira knows how to do just that. She sources her flowers at the LA Flower Market and creates bespoke eclectic combinations that will brighten up anyone’s day. She frequently attends pop-up markets and is available for events and deliveries so go support! I’ve already gotten a couple bouquets from her and highly recommend.

02 BinaMade

Ceramics with intent! These items are wonderfully cute and functional. I may be biased, but the adorable human that makes these handmade ceramics is also named Nadine. We mutually felt the rarity of meeting other Nadines and instantly knew we had to stick together. I bought a fun wavy incense holder from her but my favorite item is the ceramic matchbox that you can actually ignite the match on!

03 Bahala Na

“Bahala Na” - whatever happens, happens. I love the concept of this brand. The nostalgia of these iconic Filipino phrases are what makes their products so desirable. If you grew up in a Filipino household you know how sometimes triggering, yet hilarious it was for your parents to scold you for anything you did. “Walang hiya” - no shame, “Bahala ka sa buhay mo” - do whatever you want with your life. These phrases were often said in negative context, but their meanings can actually be positive.

05 Anako

Variety of products from Anako. Taken by Nadine.

Anako was created by Anna Cherubini who I had the honor and joy of meeting. All her products are infused with moringa, a nutritious and beneficial plant, and not only taste good but are somehow healthy for you. Her drinks are refreshing and revitalizing, the romesco and pesto are packed with flavor, jams are unique and tasty, teas make you feel good, and her pan de sal is the best I’ve ever had. I think about this and crave it as a snack often so please do yourself a favor and try all her products. I mean it. All of it.

06 Tula Designs

TBH I didn’t actually stop by this booth bc it was sooo fucking crowded in that area, that’s how you know they got good shit. BUT when I passed by there were so many things I wanted. Tula Designs makes hand crafted jewelry that are deeply connected to her Philippine roots. These embellishments are made of items that stem from nature such as precious stones, baroque pearls and shell tusks, instantly making the wearer feel one with the earth and its history.

We love a good 90s nostalgia photoshoot. Syd Studios uses airbrushed backdrops just like back in the day and really knows how to set you up as your best self. Great for groups, individuals and super pet-friendly, this would be so fun for your events.

08 San and Wolves Bakeshop

A vegan Filipino bake shop?! Do you know how hard it is to find that? Idk if that actually exists anywhere else. Please lmk. Pandan Coconut Cake, Ube Coffee Cake, Pan de Coco, we want more. I’m not vegan, but I am on the search for good vegan food because I really want to have tasty alternatives. I’m going to the next market to snatch some goods, but be on the lookout because they’re going to have a brick and mortar shop in Long Beach soon!

09 Maaari

If there’s an aesthetic I’d want my inner calm and power to be it’d look like Maaari. There’s a delicate nature to each item, but it can equip you with the confidence to look and feel good, maybe even elevated. Everything from jewelry to home decor, you can add a touch of glorious Filipino pride to your life no matter where you come from. Filipinos have always been welcoming so no gatekeeping here.

10 Vinta Gallery

Image sourced from @vintagallery

My favorite Filipino-inspired clothing brand. I’ve been following Vinta for a couple years now, and have a couple pieces from them so I know how well put together and beautifully designed their products are. There’s a lot of meaning and pride woven into each fabric, and assembled in each accessory. Creating wearable art, inputting sustainable practices, and returning investment into the very place that they source their inspiration from, the Philippines, its price point makes it worth every cent.
