Bataan Death March

Mixed Media

Newsprint with images of the Bataan Death March are shown behind a Filipino flag in a time of war, and ink illustrations of soldiers carrying the wounded or dead walk across the surface. The Filipino flag is flipped to red during war and blue during peace. Both Filipinos and Americans became prisoners of war during WWII by Imperial Japanese soldiers. Though Filipinos and Americans fought alongside one another, Filipinos were not recognized or compensated at all compared to their American allies. At the time this was made, the Filipino American Veterans were still fighting for equal recognition even decades later, thus the focus on the Filipino perspective.
